IBM Drives Are Defined by the Caddy
With IBM servers the tray matters as much as the disk. This range includes hot swap drives such as 42C0259 and 42C0498, simple swap nearline drives such as 00D5317 and 81Y9878 that are installed with the server powered down, and G2HS drives such as 90Y8782 for later System x generations. A drive with the correct capacity in the wrong caddy style will not seat or will not connect to the backplane, so the IBM part number is the only safe way to order.
Performance and Nearline Options
For transactional workloads there are 2.5-inch 10K SAS drives at 300GB, 600GB and 900GB, plus a 3.5-inch 300GB 15K SAS drive for older chassis. For capacity storage there are 1TB and 4TB SATA simple swap drives, a 750GB SATA hot swap drive and a 4TB NL-SAS drive, which combines a 7200 RPM mechanism with a SAS interface so it can sit on the same controller path as performance disks.
IBM, Lenovo and Legacy Support
