Three Formats, Chosen by Location and Volume
Industrial printers such as the Zebra ZT411, SATO CL4NX Plus and Bixolon XD5-40t sit on production lines and in distribution centres, printing thousands of labels per shift with large media rolls and metal frames. Desktop printers such as the Zebra ZD421, Bixolon XD3-40t and Epson TM-L90 suit shipping stations, pharmacies, clinics and retail back offices with moderate daily volumes. Mobile printers such as the Zebra ZQ630 and SATO PW4NX are carried on a belt or mounted on a cart, so staff print labels at the shelf, the dock or the patient bedside instead of walking to a fixed station.
Print Width, Resolution and Method
Most models here print 4-inch wide labels at 203 dpi, which covers shipping labels and standard barcodes. The Epson TM-L90 is a 3-inch model often used for receipts and small labels on the same device. Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon and produces labels that resist heat, abrasion and chemicals, while direct thermal needs no ribbon but fades over time. Printers that support both let you choose per job.
