Printhead Barcode Printers & Scanners
Printheads must match both the printer model and its resolution. Send us the printer model and the dpi and we will confirm the right assembly before you order.
Match the model and the resolution
A printhead is specific to the printer it fits and to that printer's print resolution. A 203dpi head and a 300dpi head for the same printer are different part numbers and are not interchangeable, and fitting the wrong one either will not mount or will produce output at the wrong density. Confirm both before ordering. Our guide on identifying printer spares covers reading the part number off the assembly.
When the printhead is actually the fault
A thin white line running the length of every label means burnt-out elements and the head needs replacing. Faded output across the whole label is more often a pressure, darkness or media mismatch problem, and replacing the head will not fix it. Patchy output on one side usually means pressure adjustment rather than a failed head. Our guide on printhead failure diagnosis works through the symptoms in order so you replace the head only when it is genuinely the cause.
Make the next one last longer
Most printheads die early rather than wear out. The usual causes are abrasive media, a ribbon narrower than the label, darkness set higher than it needs to be, and skipped cleaning. A printhead cleaned on every media change lasts substantially longer than one that is not. See thermal printer maintenance and media and ribbon selection.
Hold a spare
A printhead failure stops a line, and the replacement is a small, cheap, easily stocked item. If the printer is production critical, the spare belongs on the shelf before it is needed. See managing label consumables and spares.
