Why Every Scanner Here Is 2D

Older laser scanners read a single line across a 1D barcode. The area imagers in this range capture a picture of the code instead, which lets them read QR codes, Data Matrix, PDF417 and GS1 DataBar as well as standard UPC and Code 128, at any angle and often from a phone screen. Mobile coupons, digital tickets, drivers licences, patient wristbands and GS1 compliant supply chain labels all depend on 2D reading, so a 2D scanner avoids replacing the device again when a new code format arrives.

Choosing a Style

Corded handhelds such as the Zebra DS2208, Honeywell Xenon XP 1950g and Datalogic Gryphon GD4500 are the simplest choice for fixed counters. Wireless models such as the Honeywell 1952g and Datalogic GBT4500 give staff room to scan bulky items in a trolley or across a receiving bench. Rugged scanners such as the Zebra DS3678, Datalogic PowerScan PD9630 and Honeywell Granit XP 1991iXR survive drops onto concrete and cold or dusty environments.
