Four Seagate Families, Four Different Jobs
Exos is Seagate's current data centre line, and this range includes 12TB SAS, 8TB and 6TB SATA and a 1TB 2.5-inch SAS model built for 24/7 capacity storage. Cheetah is the older 15K RPM performance family, and the 300GB Fibre Channel units here are the drives many legacy SAN shelves still require. Constellation filled the nearline space before Exos, represented by a 2TB SAS drive, while Barracuda ES.2 and Barracuda cover 750GB and 500GB SATA replacements for older servers and workstations. There is also a 1.2TB 10K SAS small form factor drive for general server use.
Reading a Seagate Part Number
Seagate model numbers such as ST12000NM001G carry capacity, market segment and interface in the string, while short codes such as 9ZM173-579 or 9N7007-024 identify a specific firmware and configuration build. OEM systems often validate that build, so a drive with the right capacity but a different code can be flagged or refused. Quote the number printed on the failed drive and we will match it.
