Ultrastar Under the Western Digital Name
After taking over HGST, Western Digital began shipping Ultrastar drives under its own branding and short part numbers. The 0F38785 in this range is a 14TB 7200 RPM SATA nearline drive in the 3.5-inch form factor, supplied new. Drives of this capacity are chosen for backup repositories, object storage, video archives and large file servers, where the number of terabytes per bay determines how many chassis a project needs.
WD RE for Older Servers
RE stands for RAID Edition, Western Digital's earlier enterprise SATA family. RE drives were built with firmware that limits error recovery time so a RAID controller does not drop a drive from the array while it retries a difficult sector, which is the main practical difference from desktop disks. The 250GB WD2503ABYZ suits boot mirrors and replacements in older servers where the original drive was an RE model.

A 14TB drive takes many hours to rebuild after a failure, and the array is exposed to a second failure for that whole period.
