Freedom to Scan Where the Item Is

A wireless scanner removes the cable that limits how far the operator can reach. That matters for bulky or heavy items left in a cart at checkout, for receiving benches where cartons arrive on pallets, and for stockrooms where shelves are a few metres from the PC. The scanner communicates with a charging base connected to the computer, so the software sees it exactly as it would see a corded scanner.

The Two Wireless Models

The Honeywell Xenon XP 1952g is the cordless version of the widely used 1950g, sharing its strong performance on damaged and low contrast codes, which makes it a common choice for healthcare, retail and light warehouse work. The Datalogic Gryphon GBT4500 uses Bluetooth, so besides working with its own base it can pair directly with tablets and mobile devices, which suits mobile point of sale and inventory apps.

Batteries and Range

Battery life on cordless scanners typically covers a full shift of normal use, and returning the scanner to its base between uses keeps it charged. Range depends on walls, shelving and radio interference, so test the scanner at the furthest point staff will work. For warehouses, freezers or outdoor yards, a rugged scanner is the better fit.
