Apple Releases iOS 27 With Rebuilt Siri

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) released iOS 27 on 14 September, delivering the most significant rebuild of its Siri assistant since the software debuted in 2011.

The update is free and installs on iPhone 11 and later, the same compatibility list as iOS 26. Apple released iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 on the same day.

The headline feature is Siri AI, a generative version of the assistant that holds multi turn conversations, draws on personal data stored on the device, and has on screen awareness. Apple developed the underlying models with Google, according to its June announcement, and runs them on its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

Siri AI carries a narrower hardware requirement than iOS 27 itself. It runs on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16, iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 models. A further tier of features, including customisable voices and enhanced dictation, is limited to iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo, which carry Apple's most powerful on device model.

iOS 27 also brings a dedicated Siri app that syncs conversations across Apple devices through iCloud, a Siri mode inside the Camera app that folds in Visual Intelligence, and Write with Siri, which drafts and edits text in most places a user can type.

Apple said in June that iOS 27 and its companion updates contain more than 250 new features. The software shipped preinstalled on the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.
