Apple (AAPL) Adds Call Context to the Phone App in iOS 27

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) added a feature to the iPhone Phone app in iOS 27 called Call Context, which pulls relevant information from a user's other apps onto the call screen while they are speaking to a business.

The example Apple points to is a confirmation code. Calling an airline surfaces the booking reference sitting in Mail, without the user leaving the call to search for it. The feature runs on Apple Intelligence, which limits it to iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

It continues a pattern established in the previous release. iOS 26 added Call Screening, which answers unknown numbers and asks the caller to state their business before the phone rings, and Hold Assist, which waits in a queue and alerts the user when a person picks up. Both addressed the dead time around calls rather than the call itself. Call Context does the same for the information a caller needs to hand.

The Phone app picked up smaller changes too, including a birthday animation that appears when calling someone on the day.

Elsewhere in iOS 27, Apple added natural language event creation to Calendar, letting a user type an event in one line and have the system extract time, location and invitees. The Camera app gained a Siri mode that brings visual intelligence into the full camera interface, along with customisable controls per mode and a set of Pro controls exclusive to iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple has not stated whether Call Context works with third party calling apps or only the built-in Phone app.
