Apple Watch Series 12 Ships Without Blood Pressure Monitoring

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) shipped the Apple Watch Series 12 without the three features that dominated pre launch expectation, leaving blood pressure monitoring, a microLED display and Touch ID out of the generation.

Blood pressure monitoring had been the most discussed of the three. Neither the Series 12 nor the Apple Watch Ultra 4 carries the capability.

Touch ID had been reported as a possible addition earlier in the cycle. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman pushed back on that ahead of the event, saying he did not expect either watch to carry major design changes relative to the Series 11 and Ultra 3. A separate report suggesting the Series 12 would ship with a band containing an embedded health sensor also did not materialise, and Gurman did not repeat it.

What Apple delivered instead was measurement density. The Health Sensing System samples heart rate every five seconds and takes heart rate variability readings up to 24 times more often than the prior generation, running on the new S11 chip. Apple also enlarged the ECG electrode surface area to improve skin contact.

The gap between expectation and delivery matters commercially because the watch line carries no design change this year. Series 12 pricing holds at $399 and Ultra 4 at $799, both unchanged from their predecessors, which removes price as a variable and places the upgrade argument entirely on health sensing and Apple Intelligence features.

Apple has not commented on the development status of blood pressure monitoring.
