Apple Watch Ultra 4 Extends Battery Life Past Two Days

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 4 on 9 September, pairing a larger battery with the same sensor and silicon upgrades applied across its new watch line.

Apple fitted the Ultra 4 with a battery rated for more than two days of use. Macworld reported the figure at up to 50 hours. The watch carries satellite emergency SOS, 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3 and fast charging.

Internally the Ultra 4 matches the Series 12, running the S11 chip and the Health Sensing System that samples heart rate every five seconds and takes heart rate variability readings up to 24 times more often than the prior generation. It also carries Readiness, the recovery scoring feature Apple introduced across the line.

The chassis is 3D printed titanium in natural and black finishes, with no substantial design change from the Ultra 3. Apple added a new titanium band to the accessory range.

Pricing starts at $799, unchanged from the Ultra 3. Pre orders opened on 9 September, with availability from 18 September through Apple's website, the Apple Store app, Apple retail, authorised resellers and participating carriers for cellular models.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had reported ahead of the event that neither the Ultra 4 nor the Series 12 would carry major design changes relative to the Ultra 3 and Series 11, and that the generation would instead deliver faster performance and improved health and fitness tracking. That is broadly what Apple shipped.

watchOS 27 reached compatible existing Apple Watch models on 14 September, four days before the new hardware went on sale.
