The industries we supply in Iowa
Agriculture and food processing is the stateβs foundation, and it is the hardest environment we supply equipment into. Meat and grain processing floors are cold, wet and washed down, cold stores run below freezing, and labelling is continuous and regulated. Standard barcode scanners and mobile computers do not last the year in those conditions β batteries lose capacity in the cold, displays respond slowly, condensation forms when equipment moves between freezer and ambient, and washdown destroys anything not sealed for it.
Insurance and financial services centred on Des Moines is one of the largest such concentrations in the country. Those workloads are transactional and write-heavy, which makes SSD endurance a real decision β mixed use rather than read intensive β with retention archives behind them on nearline capacity and tape.
Data centres. Central Iowa has attracted substantial data centre investment, which means continuous drive replacement across every platform generation in service, with exact part numbers and correct carrier generations rather than approximate matches.
Manufacturing across Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Dubuque, Davenport and the Quad Cities runs part marking, traceability and production labelling, and higher education at Iowa City, Ames and Cedar Falls adds research computing storage and campus procurement.
Iowa cities we ship to include: Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Sioux City, Iowa City, Waterloo, Council Bluffs, Ames, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Cedar Falls, Marion, Bettendorf, Mason City, Marshalltown, Clinton, Burlington, Ottumwa, Fort Dodge, Muscatine, Coralville, Johnston, Clive, Newton, Indianola, Altoona, Waukee, Norwalk, Pella, Storm Lake, Spencer, Oskaloosa, Fairfield, Grinnell, Boone, Carroll, Le Mars, Denison, Decorah, Charles City, Webster City, Knoxville, Perry, Atlantic, Creston, Centerville, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Washington, Vinton, Independence, Waverly, Clear Lake, Algona, Estherville, Sheldon, Orange City, Sioux Center, Harlan, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Chariton, Osceola, Winterset, Adel, Grimes, Polk City, Bondurant, Pleasant Hill, Eldridge, DeWitt, Maquoketa, Dubuque, Manchester, Dyersville, Anamosa, Tipton, Nevada, Story City, Jefferson and every other address in the state.
Cold, wet and washdown environments
This deserves its own section because Iowa processing operations get it wrong more often than anything else, and the cost is equipment replaced every year instead of every five.
Three separate requirements, and they are not the same thing.
Cold rating. Equipment has an operating temperature range, and freezer operation sits below what standard units are rated for. Below that range batteries lose capacity rapidly, displays respond slowly and the device may simply refuse to operate. Cold-rated units are built for it.
Ingress protection. Washdown areas need sealed equipment rated against water and dust ingress. A device that is merely rugged against drops is not sealed against a hose.
Condensation management. Equipment moving between freezer and ambient forms condensation, and that is a separate problem from cold rating. Equipment designed for freezer-to-ambient cycling handles it; equipment that is not, fails.
Tell us the temperature range, whether washdown occurs, and whether equipment crosses between zones during a shift. Those three answers decide the specification, and getting them right at purchase is far cheaper than replacing equipment annually. The same applies to label media: the adhesive has to be rated for both the application temperature and the storage temperature, and print should be thermal transfer with a resin ribbon rather than direct thermal.
Getting the part right the first time
Most returns are compatibility, not quality, and the same five things cause almost all of them.
Drive carriers. A drive without the right caddy will not go in the bay. Carriers are chassis and generation specific β an HPE Smart Carrier from one generation does not fit another β and empty bays rarely ship with them. This is the most common omission in a drive order, which is why we stock caddies and trays alongside the drives.
Sector format. 512n, 512e and 4Kn are not interchangeable in an array, and the problem usually surfaces during a rebuild rather than at installation.
Memory rank and type. RDIMM and LRDIMM do not mix in the same system, and populating more ranks per channel can force the whole bank to downclock.
Processor pairing. Both sockets need matching models, and a CPU upgrade frequently needs a BIOS level and sometimes a different heatsink.
Transceiver coding. Many switches only accept transceivers coded for that vendor, and an uncoded SFP+ is simply refused.
Shipping to Iowa and winter handling
Iowa takes longer to reach from West Palm Beach than the southeastern states. Expedited service is available to every address, including the rural counties, where transit is longer still.
Two winter points. Condensation: equipment off a cold truck brought straight into a warm room can form condensation internally β allow several hours to reach room temperature, and if the packaging still feels cold it is not ready. Static: heated buildings have very dry air, dry air holds charge, and memory, controllers and bare drive electronics are what gets damaged. Most of that damage is latent, which is why grounding against the chassis matters even when nothing visibly goes wrong.
Purchase orders and Iowa public sector procurement
Iowa organisations run heavily on purchase orders. University of Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, community colleges, school districts, municipal and county IT departments, state agencies and hospital systems all require a supplier who can accept a PO, supply a formal quotation and complete vendor registration.
Tech Seller USA accepts purchase orders from organisations and offers Net-30 terms on approval, and quotes line by line against a bill of materials with exact manufacturer part numbers, condition and availability stated.

Cold, wet and washdown environments
Do you supply scanners for freezer and cold storage operations?
Yes. Tell us the operating temperature range and we will specify cold-rated units. Standard equipment fails quickly below its rated range β batteries lose capacity, displays respond slowly, and the device may refuse to operate.
What is the difference between rugged and washdown-rated?
Rugged means built to survive drops. Washdown means sealed against water and dust ingress. A device that is merely rugged is not sealed against a hose, and the two are specified separately.
Why does equipment fail moving between freezer and ambient?
Condensation, which is a separate problem from cold rating. Equipment designed for freezer-to-ambient cycling handles it; equipment that is not, fails.
Why does our scanning equipment last less than a year?
Usually because standard equipment was supplied into a cold, wet or washdown environment. Specifying correctly at purchase is far cheaper than replacing annually.
What do you need to know to specify equipment for a processing plant?
The operating temperature range, whether washdown occurs, and whether equipment crosses between temperature zones during a shift. Those three answers decide the specification.
What label media works in wet and frozen conditions?
The adhesive has to be rated for both the application temperature and the storage temperature, and print should be thermal transfer with a resin ribbon rather than direct thermal.
Do scanner batteries perform worse in cold?
Yes, markedly. A scanner that will not hold a shift in a freezer is frequently a battery rating problem rather than a faulty unit.
Servers, storage and financial workloads
Do you supply complete servers?
Yes β HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen9 and Gen10, Dell PowerEdge R630, R730, R740 and R750, Lenovo ThinkSystem and Supermicro, as complete systems and as parts for specific models.
Can you supply parts for a specific server model?
Yes. Tell us the model and generation and we quote drives, caddies, memory, processors, controllers and power supplies against that platform.
Do you supply Iowa data centre operators?
Yes. Vendor-coded drives for HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge, Lenovo ThinkSystem and NetApp platforms β tell us the platform and generation and we confirm the carrier match.
Which SSDs suit transactional insurance and financial workloads?
Enterprise SSDs with power loss protection and an endurance rating matched to the workload β typically mixed use at around 3 DWPD. Consumer flash under sustained transactional writes wears out far faster than expected.
What is power loss protection and why does it matter?
Capacitors that let an SSD complete in-flight writes when power is lost. It is the difference that matters most between consumer and enterprise flash.
What storage suits retention archives?
High-capacity CMR nearline drives in a double-parity array, with LTO tape behind them for long retention.
Do you supply LTO tape drives and media?
Yes β LTO-6, LTO-7, LTO-8 and LTO-9 drives and media, plus autoloaders and libraries from HPE StoreEver, IBM, Quantum and Overland.
Which LTO generations are backwards compatible?
LTO drives generally read two generations back and write one generation back, with limits that changed from LTO-8 onward. Tell us the drive and the media you hold and we will confirm before you buy either.
Hard drives and SSDs
What enterprise hard drive capacities do you stock?
600GB 15K SAS, 900GB SAS, 1.2TB, 1.8TB and 2.4TB 10K SAS, and 4TB, 8TB, 10TB, 12TB, 16TB and 20TB nearline drives, in 12Gb/s SAS and 6Gb/s SATA.
Which drive brands do you carry?
Seagate Exos, Western Digital Ultrastar and Toshiba, plus vendor-coded HPE, HP, Dell, IBM, Lenovo and NetApp stock.
What is the difference between 15K, 10K and 7,200 RPM drives?
Spindle speed trades capacity for latency. 15K SAS suits transactional workloads, 10K is the general-purpose middle, and 7,200 RPM nearline gives the most capacity per bay for archives.
What does nearline SAS mean?
A 7,200 RPM high-capacity drive with a SAS interface rather than SATA. You get capacity economics with SAS queueing and dual-port capability.
What enterprise SSD capacities and brands do you carry?
1.92TB, 3.84TB and 7.68TB in 12Gb/s SAS, 6Gb/s SATA and NVMe U.2, plus M.2 β Samsung, Micron, Intel, Seagate Nytro, Kioxia and vendor-coded HPE and Dell.
What is the difference between read intensive and mixed use SSDs?
Endurance. Read intensive drives are rated around 1 DWPD; mixed use is typically 3 DWPD for databases and virtualisation. A read intensive drive in a write-heavy role wears out early.
What do DWPD and TBW mean?
Drive writes per day and terabytes written β how much can be written over the warranted life. Match the rating to the workload.
What is U.2 and how does it differ from U.3?
Both are 2.5 inch NVMe form factors. U.3 backplanes accept U.2 drives, but U.2 backplanes do not accept U.3 β the compatibility runs one way only.
What is sector format and why does it matter?
512n, 512e and 4Kn describe how a drive presents its sectors. Mixing formats in one array is refused or unpredictable, and it frequently surfaces during a rebuild rather than at installation.
Should I avoid SMR drives in an array?
Yes, always. SMR write performance collapses part-way through sustained writes, and a rebuild onto an SMR drive can fail outright. We state CMR or SMR on every listing.
Can you tell me the drive hours before I buy?
Yes. The drive reports it exactly and we check before listing.
Controllers, caddies, rails and spares
Do you supply RAID controllers?
Yes β Dell PERC H730, H730P, H740 and H965i, HPE Smart Array P440ar and P408i, plus LSI and Broadcom HBAs and QLogic and Emulex fibre channel HBAs.
Do you supply RAID cache batteries and capacitor packs?
Yes. This is the part that fails silently β the controller drops the array into write-through and performance falls off with no obvious error.
What is an IT mode HBA and when do I need one?
A host bus adapter that passes drives through to the operating system without RAID abstraction β an LSI 9207-8i or 9300-8i, for instance. Software-defined storage and ZFS need it.
Do you supply drive caddies and trays?
Yes β Dell drive caddies and HPE Smart Carrier trays, plus drive blanks. We stock them alongside the drives.
Will an HPE Smart Carrier from one generation fit another?
No. Smart Carrier trays changed across generations and do not cross. Tell us the server model and generation.
Do you supply server rails and rail kits?
Yes. Rails are chassis and rack specific, and a server without the right rails does not mount safely.
Do you supply riser cards and backplane boards?
Yes. Risers determine which PCIe slots are usable and at what lane width, which is why an adapter that fits physically may still run slower than expected.
Do you supply server fans and heatsinks?
Yes. Heatsinks are frequently processor and chassis specific, and a CPU upgrade sometimes needs a different heatsink.
Memory and processors
What server memory do you stock?
16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB DDR4 RDIMM and LRDIMM registered ECC in DDR4-2400 PC4-19200, DDR4-2666 PC4-21300 and DDR4-3200 PC4-25600, plus DDR5-4800 and DDR5-5600 and DDR3-1600 PC3-12800.
Which memory brands do you carry?
Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix, Kingston and Crucial, plus HPE and Dell coded modules where the platform expects them.
What is the difference between RDIMM, UDIMM and LRDIMM?
RDIMM buffers the address and command lines, LRDIMM buffers the data lines too and allows much higher total capacity, and UDIMM is unbuffered. They do not mix in the same system.
Why is my DDR4-3200 memory running at 2666?
Population rules. Filling more ranks or more slots per channel forces the bank to downclock, and the processor also has a maximum supported speed. The modules are not faulty.
Can I mix memory sizes and speeds?
You can, but everything runs at the slowest common speed and unbalanced population costs you channel performance.
Do you supply Xeon E5 v3 and v4 processors?
Yes, along with Xeon Scalable Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum from 8 to 28 cores, and AMD EPYC and Opteron.
Can I mix different Xeon models in a dual socket server?
No. Both sockets need matching models. A mismatched pair either refuses to boot or runs on one socket.
Does a processor upgrade need a BIOS update?
Frequently yes, and the BIOS has to be updated before the new processor goes in.
Power and networking
Do you supply server power supplies?
Yes, by wattage β 495W, 750W, 800W, 1100W and above β for HPE, Dell and Supermicro platforms.
Can I mix power supply wattages in one server?
Generally no. Redundant supplies should match on wattage and usually on part number; a mismatched pair commonly logs a fault and may not provide redundancy at all.
Do you supply rack PDUs and UPS units?
Yes, including UPS battery replacements. Test under real load periodically β a self-test draws far less than a real outage.
Do you supply SFP+ and QSFP transceivers?
Yes, including SFP-10G-SR, QSFP+ and QSFP28.
Will any SFP+ transceiver work in my switch?
Often not. Many switches only accept transceivers coded for that vendor and simply refuse others. Tell us the switch make and model.
Do you supply 10GbE network adapters and switches?
Yes β Intel X520 and X710, Mellanox ConnectX and Broadcom adapters in PCIe, OCP and mezzanine form factors, plus Cisco Catalyst and comparable PoE+ and 10GbE switches by port count.
Winter, condensation and handling
Can I power equipment on as soon as it arrives in an Iowa winter?
No. Condensation can form internally when equipment comes off a cold truck into a heated room. Allow several hours to reach room temperature first.
How do I know when equipment has acclimatised?
If the packaging still feels cold to the touch, it is not ready. Several hours for a server, less for a drive or scanner.
Why does static damage increase in winter?
Heated buildings have very dry air, and dry air holds charge. Memory, controllers and bare drive electronics are what gets damaged.
What is latent static damage?
The component works, passes testing and fails earlier than it should. That is most static damage.
What is the most useful precaution against static?
Touch the chassis before touching components. It is free, takes a second, and prevents most incidents.
Labelling, scanning and printheads
Do you supply industrial label printers for Iowa manufacturing and processing?
Yes. Zebra and SATO industrial printers suited to production labelling and traceability, with printheads and spares.
How many spare printheads should a plant hold?
At least one per printer model in continuous use. Printheads are consumables with a rated life measured in linear distance printed, not parts that fail unexpectedly.
What kills printheads early?
Abrasive or dirty media is the biggest cause, then ribbon narrower than the label, then darkness set too high. Cleaning at every media change extends head life more than anything else.
How do I know which printhead my printer needs?
Read the part number off the existing printhead or the printer label. Printheads differ by resolution for the same printer model and do not cross between models.
There is a white line through every label. What is wrong?
A dead heating element in the printhead. It appears in the same position on every label, does not heal, and more elements will follow.
Why is my printer skipping labels?
Calibration. The printer detects label boundaries with a sensor, and changing media size, liner or gap requires recalibrating.
Do you supply label printers for Iowa healthcare?
Yes. Zebra and SATO printers for patient identification, wristband and specimen labelling, plus genuine replacement printheads.
How many spare scanners should a plant hold?
At minimum one per shift, and more in washdown and freezer areas where equipment takes the hardest wear.
Shipping, procurement and returns
Do you ship to Iowa?
Yes, to every address in the state, including the rural counties.
How long does delivery to Iowa take?
Iowa takes longer to reach from West Palm Beach than the southeastern states. Tell us your deadline and we will confirm what is achievable.
Do you have a warehouse in Iowa?
No. We ship from West Palm Beach, Florida, and we would rather state that plainly than imply a distribution network we do not have.
Should Iowa operations hold spares?
Yes, particularly printheads and cold-rated scanners. A line stopped for a consumable is expensive, and Iowa transit times make waiting worse than in the southeast.
Can you hold stock against our platforms?
Tell us the platforms and printer models you run and your refresh timing. It commits you to nothing and it changes what we can do when something fails.
Can Iowa universities and agencies order on a purchase order?
Yes. We accept purchase orders from organisations, offer Net-30 on approval, and complete vendor registration forms and W-9s as required.
Can you quote against a bill of materials?
Yes. Send the list with part numbers, quantities and the target system for each line, and you get it back priced per line with exact part number, condition and availability stated.
Is Iowa sales tax applied?
Sales tax is applied where we are required to collect it. If your organisation is tax exempt, send your exemption certificate before ordering.
How quickly do you respond to an Iowa quote request?
Our target is one business hour, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern β 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central.
What condition is your hardware in?
We state the condition on every line. Ask for the specific condition, the testing performed and the drive hours where applicable.
What is your return policy?
30 days. Given the transit distance, raise a problem promptly.
Should I test hardware when it arrives?
Yes, after it has acclimatised and before it goes into production.
Will you tell me if I am buying the wrong thing?
Yes, including telling you when standard equipment will not survive your environment.
Do you buy decommissioned hardware from Iowa organisations?
Contact us with a list of what is coming out and we will tell you what it is worth and what is worth keeping as spares.
How do I contact you from Iowa?
