Tell us the temperature range, the surface and the required life and we will specify printer, media and ribbon together. Ordinary label stock does not survive those conditions.

Adhesive failure. Adhesives are rated for the temperature they are applied at and the temperature they are stored at, and those are frequently different. Both have to be specified.

Thermal transfer with a resin ribbon for anything with a long life. Direct thermal fades with heat, light and time, and a specimen label that becomes unreadable means a sample that cannot be identified.

Small labels with dense data usually need 300dpi rather than 203dpi. Tell us the label size and what has to fit on it and we will advise.

Rugged means built to survive drops. Washdown means sealed against water and dust ingress. A device that is merely rugged is not sealed against a hose.

Condensation, which is a separate problem from cold rating. Equipment designed for freezer-to-ambient cycling handles it; equipment that is not, fails.

Usually because standard equipment was supplied into a cold, wet or washdown environment. Specifying correctly at purchase is far cheaper than replacing annually.
