AMD Rises as AI Chip Peers Fall on Sector Warning
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD) rose 2.19% on 14 September while the rest of the artificial intelligence semiconductor complex fell, an unusual divergence on a session driven by sector wide sentiment rather than company news.
Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) fell about 2% the same day and Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MU) dropped 5%, as investors weighed calls from AI executives for a more measured approach to developing advanced systems. Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) was close to unchanged.
AMD carries a data centre roadmap that is now largely disclosed. The company launched its Instinct MI400 Series at its Advancing AI event on 23 July, comprising the MI455X for frontier AI and AI factory deployments and the MI430X for sovereign AI and high performance computing. The series uses the CDNA 5 architecture with HBM4 memory and the open ROCm software stack.
The rack level product is Helios. AMD has said the system integrates 72 Instinct MI455X accelerators with a combined 31 terabytes of HBM4 memory, built on EPYC Venice processors. Chief Executive Officer Lisa Su has put its performance at up to 2.9 FP4 exaflops for inference and 1.4 FP8 exaflops for training.
AMD engineers presented the MI455X architecture at Hot Chips 2026 last week, detailing cache, memory and compute changes over the MI355X.
