Not as hardware. It is a standard Zebra direct thermal mechanism running ZPL, and ZPL is the same language whether the label on it is a parcel label, a shelf label or a pick ticket. There is no physical component in a direct thermal desktop printer that knows or cares which company collects the parcel.
The honest qualification is that the configuration it arrives with may well be set up for one carrier's workflow. Three layers can carry that setup, and all three need confirming rather than assuming.
Firmware. The firmware version and the settings stored in it were chosen to suit the shipping software the printer was driven by. That can include label length, media sensing behaviour, darkness defaults and the response to particular commands. Firmware on Zebra desktop hardware is a serviceable thing rather than a fixed property of the unit, but you should establish what is on it before you plan around it. Driver. A printer that was driven by a carrier's shipping application on the bench does not automatically appear as a general purpose printer to your own systems. You will be installing a driver of your own, or sending ZPL to it directly from your application, and which of those you do changes the work involved.
Label format. Stored formats, fonts and label templates sitting in the printer's memory were written for a particular label. They are not a problem, but they are not your label either. Anything you print is going to come from your own format or your own driver.
None of that makes the printer carrier-specific hardware. It makes it a printer that has been configured for one job and needs configuring for the next one. That is ordinary work, and it is the main reason these units are worth less than a boxed equivalent.
Check the interface and the firmware before you buy one for general use
Interface is the first thing to settle, because it decides whether the printer can join your operation at all. Plan your own media supply once the printer is yours outright
On a carrier programme, the media generally comes from the carrier. That is one of the quieter reasons these printers feel cheap to run while they are on the bench: the labels appear, the shipper does not buy them, and nobody at the shipper ever costs the consumable. Once the printer is yours outright, that stops. You are buying the labels.
That is a straightforward purchasing task, but it needs doing deliberately. Direct thermal stock varies in coating quality, in liner, in adhesive and in the sensing marks it carries, and the wrong choice produces faint print, tracking drift or sensor faults that look like printer faults. Consumables, not the printer, are the real ongoing cost
Over any realistic ownership period the labels cost more than the printer did. That is true of almost every desktop thermal printer and it is emphatically true of a cheap one. A bench printing a few hundred labels a day gets through media continuously, and the acquisition cost of the hardware stops being the interesting number within months.
The printhead is the second cost, and it is a consumable rather than a component. It is rated in length of media printed, and it wears faster on abrasive stock and at high darkness settings. That makes two ordinary operating decisions into cost decisions. Cheap abrasive labels shorten head life, and running darkness high to compensate for cheap labels shortens it further. A printer that leaves a carrier programme still needs three things of your own
It needs a driver, a label format and a media source, and none of those arrive in the box. This is the practical reality of the whole category, and it is worth stating plainly because it is where people get caught.
A driver or a direct path to the printer. Either you install a driver so ordinary applications can print to it, or your system sends ZPL to it directly. Both work. The choice depends on what your software expects, and it is worth deciding before the printer is on the bench rather than after.
A label format. Somebody has to define what goes on the label, at what size, with which barcode symbology and in which positions. If your order system already produces labels, this is a configuration task. If it does not, it is a small project, and it is usually the longest part of putting a secondhand printer into service.

It fits a packing bench, a despatch desk, a stockroom or a small office that needs shipping and picking labels printed reliably at modest volume. Buying one refurbished: what to check
Check the printhead first. It is the most expensive single part and the one that determines whether the printer has useful life left. A thin white line running down every label is burnt-out elements rather than dirt, and cleaning will not recover it. Ask what condition the head is in and whether it has been replaced.
Check the platen roller second. Flat spots, hardening or adhesive build-up on the rubber drive roller cause tracking drift and uneven darkness, and this gets misdiagnosed as a printhead fault more often than anything else in thermal printing.
Then check the box contents.
